I’ve been waiting to write this fashion lookbook for a bit because winter formal just had its best theme yet: La La Land. After watching the movie over Christmas break, I knew your dresses and suits were going to be more stunning than ever.

Abby relied on the power of sparkles, which pulled through in tying her dress and accessories together. Tough to miss on the dance floor, Abby shined in the darkness, just like Mia did in La La Land.

The seniors pulled out their best outfits yet for their last winter formal. Leela brought back a stylish cut from the past: the choker neckline. A nice ode to the 1970s, the high neckline paired with the sparkles reminisces of nights of disco music and extravaganzas. Over on the left, Nevita dons a more modern look, with ruched silk, silver holes, and a subversive hemline, allowing her to balance creativity and class with the ease of a Vivienne Westwood model.

Don’t worry, silk dresses haven’t gone out of style yet! Paulina and Hannah rock the cold shoulder with the class that comes with silk, and managed to use this staple to match each other’s looks without completely twinning.

Siblings Kimberly and John went for a more traditional look, but they didn’t fail to add their own twist! Kimberly’s dress is a creative LBD, featuring trending scallops at the top and playful tulle towards the bottom. Meanwhile, John transformed the classic suit-and-tie into a stage for patterns; stripes and dots allowed him to stand out from the sea of navy.

Eleanor and Charlie have mastered the art of couples-matching. The pink of his bow tie corresponds with that of her dress, elevating their collective look. Eleanor also sports a fun, multicolored floral pattern hailing from iconic moments in Y2K celebrity fashion.

Like John, Lee proves that patterns can make or break a suited outfit (hint, go wear that pattern). Lee made sure that his floral tie wasn’t lost on us, pairing it with a matching flower brooch. Flowers are one of my favorite elements in fashion, and I appreciate this rare winter take on them. Meanwhile, Heidi brought the brightness of summer with her flashing pink dress, reminding us that La La Land and other themes aren’t confined by the idea of a winter formal. Ziri also prioritized the film’s theme, dressing up as Seb with an immaculate attention to detail.
Everyone brought their A-game to the dance floor this winter! Be sure to check out The Bell after prom for more stunning looks.
