A few weekends ago, the St. Stephen’s field hockey team traveled to Fort Worth for the Episcopal Cup, playing five games in two days and finishing the weekend with a 4–1 record. The Spartans left campus on Friday morning, arriving at All Saints Episcopal School around 12pm. Starting off the weekend strong, the team came out of the gates with a dominating win against Holland Hall.
Next up was Casady School, this game ended up being one of the closest games of the weekend. Unfortunately, after a hard fought game, the team came up short with a 2-1 loss. However, the team didn’t have time to dwell on this loss as they had another game immediately after. They bounced back against St. Stephen’s rival school St. Andrew’s, closing the day with a 2-1 finish.
After three games in a row, the team was ready for a break. The players ate dinner with the other teams in the All Saints dining hall before heading back to the hotel to relax. Later that night, the team made an ice cream run, giving everyone a chance to hang out and spend time together away from the field.
After a restful night, the Spartans started bright and early on Saturday morning with a team breakfast at Panera before heading back to the field. St. Stephen’s picked up another win against the All Saints team before facing ESD in the final game of the weekend. The Spartans finished the weekend strong with a 3-1 win, bringing their final record to 4-1.
After a filling lunch at Chipotle, it was time for the bus ride back to Austin. Despite five games in less than two days, there was still plenty of energy left for deaf karaoke on the way home. With headphones on and music turned up, the players attempted to sing songs they could barely hear themselves singing. This carried on with not only solos but duos as well.
Between the four wins, lots of time together, an ice cream run, and some karaoke performances, the Episcopal Cup was a fun and successful weekend for the Spartans and a great way to kick off their season.
