The Makeshifts are one of the few student-led bands to have success on the Hill. Led by singer Finnian Neary, The Makeshifts band has been the hill’s newest sensation. What has led to their meteoric rise, you may ask? Well, you’re reading just the right article! 

Not even 6 months ago, the Makeshifts faced a dilemma. Coming off a strong performance at the Culture Festival, those good vibes didn’t last forever. Lead guitarist and core member Wyatt Hassibi announced that he would be taking a break from the band, and the Makeshifts faced a problem: the band was seemingly coming to an end before it even started.

Nevertheless, the Makeshifts rebounded quickly. Tommy Clark joined as a guitarist, and the band delivered an outstanding performance at the Art Fair, performing songs such as “The Weight,” where guitarist Keenan Hardy made a surprise appearance on the mic!

The Makeshifts now have their next obstacle: song writing. Once they realized covers can only take them so far, they had a whole summer on their horizon to come up with their very first original. When lead drummer Jun left for Korea, they found the very inspiration they needed. With the help of Elijah Williams at guitar, they would write their very first song titled “No Drummer Found.” With all the momentum on their side, they booked performances for this school year. In fact, they recently performed on September 3rd for middle school chapel and September 11th for upper school chapel. After that, they will take their talents to the Austin High School.
