A 12th-year student dedicated to her craft and ardently passionate about her work, Raleigh Munyon has been at St. Stephen’s for the last 7 years and shown her commitment to Theatre Focus through her tireless work as a stage manager.
In this role, her responsibilities are numerous and require copious attention to detail, as she works in and out of rehearsals every day after school. Before rehearsals start, she sets the agenda and takes attendance. During rehearsals, she’s keeping track of time, recordings, actors, props, and set pieces. During showtime, Raleigh keeps track of where each set piece and prop is at any given time, as well as calling music, light, sound, and projection cues—all while staying calm and collected. Her work is truly admirable, and she’s the backbone of every production.
But why stage managing? Upon being asked, Raleigh mentions that although the job was initially offered to her as an opportunity to be involved offstage, she continued to do so because she’s able to apply her organizational skills, and allow her to come out of her shell.
She’s made many amazing connections with many people during her time on the hill, and reportedly, her favorite memory on the hill was the Drag show hosted in her freshman year by Lia Darcy.
As a senior, Raleigh has gained some wisdom. Her advice for rising seniors and those looking into colleges is to keep an open mind, and don’t hold onto preconceived notions about any school that you visit. She shared that despite initially doubting that she would like the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she will be attending in the following school year, after touring the school, she became excited about the environment, community, and opportunities that the school offered.
From being everyone’s favorite stage manager with the best outfits and best emails, Raleigh has made an undeniable impact on everyone she meets. Hanniyah, someone who worked with Raleigh extensively on theater, even states, “RALEIGH MUNYON?!?! My favorite stage manager?????? I was seriously lost in the few shows I’ve done without her, she will be seriously missed!!!” when asked to make a comment about her.
She will be dearly missed, and we know she’s going to do great things!
