As the summer closes out and school starts back up, Austin can expect more than just the lingering days in the humid nineties. From summer to fall solstice, commercial and movie sets have scattered the city. On top of that, star-studded celebrities have chosen Austin as their place to promote and celebrate their premieres. Below is a list of films, both confirmed and speculated for production in Austin as of 2025!
Confirmed
Austin Butler and Darren Aronofsky promote Caught Stealing
Actor Butler and Filmmaker Aronofsky came to Austin and met up with Mathew McConaughey August 13th at the Alamo Drafthouse. Their movie came out August 29th!
Mathew Mcconaughey and Woody Harrelson for Brothers
The two movie stars and best friends of nearly thirty years filmed the upcoming film Brothers in Austin during May. Some of the film locations were South Congress and West Riverside!
Cole Sprouse Elastic Hearts
Known for his acting role in Riverdale, Sprouse is confirmed to be filming an upcoming movie from September 8 to October 12 in various locations around Austin and Central Texas.
Speculated
Awkwafina and Jimmy O Yang
The two comedians who acted alongside each other in the 2018 rom-com Crazy Rich Asians were seen walking out of the South Congress Hotel in mid-August, with cameras following their trail. Though there is no confirmation on why they were in town, Awkwafina mentioned her brief Texan excursion on her instagram story.
Film production at Mañana
Several trails and vans line the blocks by Mañana Coffee Shop’s downtown location in early September. What they were filming is a mystery, but it was undeniably a large production.
Car commercial
In mid-August, a sign was posted outside Austin Central Public Library mentioning an advertisement taking place. For the production, a car dealership had blocked off Butterfly Bridge with security and vans. With increasing popularity, Waymo, Covert, and local car dealerships have taken to downtown as the place to film their commercials over the summer!
Running commercial
In mid-September, by the north side of the Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Austin, massive film trucks once again congregated outside the Mañana Coffee Shop ! Although no commercial has been confirmed, there were runners followed by cameras along the spiraling ramp to the river trail.
In early summer, the bustling Austin film scene commenced. As fall arrives, Spartans are welcome to lights, camera, and action on our very own hill; the school play, The Outsiders, premieres!
