This last Friday, on September 19th, the Spartan homecoming game drew big crowds and high spirits. Even before the game’s start, music drifted onto the field from the block party, and students of all ages circled the all-new track in anticipation. It had already been an afternoon of success, with girl’s field hockey and other teams winning their own home games; the dance itself was rapidly approaching, and the gym had hay bales en-route. It was among this lively scene that the varsity football team took to the field for a game against Texas Legacy, a charter school from Springs, Texas.
The game was a quick and determined showcase of the new Spartan football team’s ability. Although this is their first year playing eleven-man, new and old players paired with a rejuvenated coaching staff to form quite the team. The offense had many great points, throws, and plays; similarly, the defense stopped the other team from scoring for the entire first half of the game. With their hard work, the Spartans won with a vast majority and even retired its top players after halftime. Still, however, the team continued to shine.
Beyond just the success of the team, the game was a living example of our school’s community and spirit — the cheerleaders and drum team featured their talent at halftime, and the recently opened “Huddle” thrived in full swing! This concession stand is refreshed and perfect for this new year of football and athletics; as many students discovered this Friday, it adds quite a bit to the experience of sports-watching at our school. The high turn-out of this game, and the effort put into it by all parties, should motivate us all to tune into this season’s home games and show our Spartan pride!
