A common hero that we all know and love is the one and only Superman: the very man who can fly, whose famous weakness is Kryptonite, and who married the iconic reporter of the DC Universe, Lois Lane. The man of Metropolis’s new movie has garnered a lot of traction with even higher ratings than the 2013 movie ‘Man of Steel’ on Rotten Tomatoes. So, if ‘Man of Steel’ garnered lots of traction yet gained lower-starred reviews than the newly released ‘Superman,’ then how good is James Gunn’s rendition of it?
To answer this question, I took the liberty to watch the movie during one of the busiest weekends of my life. And I absolutely loved it.
Corenswet’s Superman, according to many users on Rotten Tomatoes, is described as a “quirky, humanized, and heartwarming” adaptation of the iconic hero from Krypton, and the chemistry, in my opinion, with Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane felt genuine. The interactions between the two of them, especially in scenes meant to feel romantic, are fluid and don’t seem forced. One of my favorite things about this movie after watching it was how Brosnahan truly encapsulates the love Lois holds for Superman. Many DC fans on many social media platforms agreed that Superman and Lois’ interactions did not crowd the movie with romance, but added a nice touch of spice to the action-packed plot of the movie, like adding a pinch of salt to a cookie to emphasize its sweetness.
All in all, the movie embraces the accurate portrayal of Superman from the comics, and James Gunn has done a phenomenal job executing the complex and heartwarming character of Clark Kent and Superman in this movie. This movie is definitely a comfort movie to many, and it’s a good recommendation from the hundreds of thousands who voted on Rotten Tomatoes plus me!
